OH ISH! - Handles

The VW GTI is an icon in sport compacts, being the pioneer and one of the leaders in its class when it comes to cheap speed. The MKV (Mark 5... last generation) came with "cute" design ideas and implementations on why it deserves to be at the top.

Check it out after the jump

One of them was the "Oh shoot!" handle bars which are located near the center console. It gave the passenger something extra to hold onto when the became nervous from the driver testing the limits of GTI.

Heres what they loooked like, from the front view.

Here's the side view (European model)(no they do not come with the carbon fiber look, but as you can see it can definately be implimented in seen fit, the shifter is also custom)

As you can see they are located right where the passenger can grab them and along with the handle above the door.  I like the idea behind them and its multiusefulness. One they reduce material use from the bottom of the center cosnole without a big gapping space. Two they provide the a safety or a comfort, when the driver get a little hooligan inside of him, which VW deemed a "fast." Which VW says is the hooligan inside of all us. I think its one of the small and creative ways that VW GTI remain unique in there own while the rest of the automaker are emulating a the sport compact niche.
