MP3 was the toughest and most time consuming mini project of them all. It required us to pull extensive research along with designing a solution using techniques we learned in class. For this we had to identify and design a section of urban infrastructure.
More details below:
Refuse and disposal was our focus in this project. We came up with a new system that involved using chutes for garbage disposal in NYC apartment buildings. It involved a train system for non recyclables and compost. Recyclable were picked up in smaller intervals using the recyclable pick up trucks that picked it up only twice a week. Our full project can be seen in the post for MP3.
As with MP2 hurdles were always an issue. Again members of our group didn't pull the necessary amount of weight that was needed to make our group 100% successful. We gave it our best shot and put more than enough time to push for the best grade possible in the time slot given to us.
Small take on other groups
Different strategies were taken by each team because of the background of team members, curiosity, and interests. Each team had to operate differently because of the time, a valuable resources, available to them. A big hurdle with some other group members is getting everyone down together because everyone is so busy.
My role towards the team in this MP3 was grunt work along editing and production. While not done by myself of course, I assisted other members as much as they assisted me in my efforts for the task was given to me. Also another tool was introduced to help us work independently on the whole project and that was a dropbox. This tool helped us get organized better as a group and to keep all our different files in one location.
The video of the report out can be found here:
Overall i think all 3 project were interesting and very engaging. The design tools taught in class helped us dramatically to our final design stage and improved our skills not only as engineer but as designers as well.
